Someone just posted a review of one of my stories at ff.net. Most of the reviews there tend to be of the "OMG, what a great story!" type, even if the story s**ks. I got this:


i found no flaws with the story. wasnt paying to spellin, but i like it.

The funniest ones are the ones that go on and on about the "brilliance" of a story when what I just read was Mary-Sue dreck.

I'm used to "I lyk ur storYs," but this was "i found no flaws with the story." Talk about damning with faint praise--especially since she wouldn't know a flaw if it bit her on the ass.

I've gotten those. They kind of make me sorry for the people writing them. I want to write back and offer them some of my old English grammar books from grade school, but that would be far too rude.

I don't mind being rude in a review (although I usually resist the temptation), but I suppose one can't be rude when thanking someone for reviewing. Isn't that Miss Manners's Rule #1 of thank-you note writing? "Thou shalt not be rude to person you are thanking."

(Besides, if illiterate chick actually learned a bit of grammar or spelling, she might come back tell me about the "flaws" in my story.)
