Hey, Wo Fat! Long time no see.
Jan. 4th, 2011 01:54 pmMany on my f-list are gaga over the new Hawaii 5-O, or to be more accurate, they're gaga over Steve/Danny. I'd resisted watching for the same reason I passed on the new Battlestar Galactica, I'd grown up on the original and found the idea of a remake a bit disconcerting. (In the case of Hawaii 5-O, I grew up watching reruns. I'm not old enough to have watched episodes new.)
( But I watched some last night. )
I looked up at this and saw that Wo Fat is played by the actor who plays "The Chairman" (nephew of the original Chairman) in the American version of Iron Chef. "Very cool," I think. And then I catch Wo Fat's smirk as he gets driven away in his golf cart. That's when I realize that this guy is a higher ranking bad guy than Hiro, and will be a source of continuing trouble.
I'm telling my husband this when my theory is seemingly confirmed by word coming in that Koji has died under suspicious circumstances. "See! Wo Fat ordered him killed because he was sloppy disposing of evidence," I say. And that's when it hits me. "Wo Fat was the name of the bad guy on the original Hawaii 5-O! He was like McGarrett's arch-enemy."
"How do you remember that?" my husband asked.
"I don't know. I just do." And I did. A quick Google confirmed it.
ETA: My parents once ran into Jack Lord (the original Steve McGarrett) in a restaurant. My dad, thinking he was being very witty, said, "Book 'em, Danno," as he passed Mr. Lord's table. Mr. Lord replied, "No, it's, 'Book 'em, Danno. Murder one.'" My dad was in heaven; my mother was mortified.
