Gripe of the day

A brief rant:
The purpose of a disclaimer on a fanfic is to acknowledge that one is--ahem--"borrowing" characters and situations which were created by another author. It's the "Yes, I am sort of plagiarizing your stuff, but I'm admitting it, so please don't be angry" plea.
I've read long ones, short ones, humorous ones, and ones that would make a lawyer proud. All are fine with me except...
Why do some people write a so-called "disclaimer" in which they "admit" that they are not JKR or some other author on whose work the fanfic is based? I never thought you were, honey. Was that ever really in question?
(Comments blocked because this is just a rant, not an opportunity for debate. Thank you for your indulgence.)
