I'm somewhat frugal by nature. I gladly accept hand-me-downs for my kids, I use coupons when it isn't too much bother, and the idea of spending a fortune on expensive designer shoes or a handbag just makes me laugh.

As for sheets--I knew that the higher thread counts were supposed to feel much smoother and softer. Test touches in the store confirmed this. But the prices! I just couldn't justify spending $100 or more on sheets. (And that's when they are on sale.) I mean, come on, sheets are those things we regularly spill various bodily fluids upon. I want something cheap for that.

But then I was on vacation, and the sheets on the bed felt amazing. They were the kind that say, "Come on, go to bed naked. You know you want to." (Didn't. Kids sleeping in the same room.)

A few months after I returned home from vacation, our bed's bottom sheet tore. I needed to buy new sheets, a local store happened to be having a white sale, and--after a bit of inner debate--I bought some 800 thread count sheets. Oh--amazing. They stay so crisp and smooth. Night after night, they say, "Freshly made bed." Buy some; you'll be glad you did.

Thus ends my foolish babbling for the day. (I hope.)

I bought t-shirt sheets once. I figured, "T-shirts are very comfy, so t-shirt sheets will be comfy too." What I didn't realize was that the same qualities that make a thin cotton knit comfortable in a shirt (stretchy, moves with you, etc.) aren't what one wants in a sheet. Too clingy!

I really hate the t-sheets. They were really warm, they stuck to my pjs so they got all twisted around, and they stretched like mad! I still have the pillow cases which I use for my body pillow (one on each end), since they are stretchy and sorta fit. But they ride up and bunch. grrr. too poor to buy a real pillow case :(
