New Sheets
Jan. 24th, 2007 09:46 amI'm somewhat frugal by nature. I gladly accept hand-me-downs for my kids, I use coupons when it isn't too much bother, and the idea of spending a fortune on expensive designer shoes or a handbag just makes me laugh.
As for sheets--I knew that the higher thread counts were supposed to feel much smoother and softer. Test touches in the store confirmed this. But the prices! I just couldn't justify spending $100 or more on sheets. (And that's when they are on sale.) I mean, come on, sheets are those things we regularly spill various bodily fluids upon. I want something cheap for that.
But then I was on vacation, and the sheets on the bed felt amazing. They were the kind that say, "Come on, go to bed naked. You know you want to." (Didn't. Kids sleeping in the same room.)
A few months after I returned home from vacation, our bed's bottom sheet tore. I needed to buy new sheets, a local store happened to be having a white sale, and--after a bit of inner debate--I bought some 800 thread count sheets. Oh--amazing. They stay so crisp and smooth. Night after night, they say, "Freshly made bed." Buy some; you'll be glad you did.
Thus ends my foolish babbling for the day. (I hope.)
