More treasure hunting

jo_yumegari recently asked me, "I wondered if you knew any fic similar to your own 'The best thing my mother ever did for me'? I'm longing to read good fics dealing with the Marauder's first year, and James having problems with the 'Black reputation'..."
I know I've read some good "first year" fics which could fit the bill, but I can't recall specific titles. One in particular comes to mind: Sirius, quite surprised that he isn't in Slytherin, gravitates toward James for friendship because he's the only other pureblood in his dorm. But all "first year" stories in which Sirius doesn't quite fit in from day one will do. Suggestions? Feel free to name your own stories or some one else's.
By the way, Jo, I just visited your site at Deviant Art. Lovely. I especially liked “Owning Grimmauld Place.” I recognized at once that it was a scene from Hope is the Thing with Feathers byoddsbobs. Everyone else, I highly recommend both the art and the story. (The scene illustrated is in chapter 9 of 10.)

It's Peter-centric (of course), but the other Marauders are mentioned as well, and the "gang of Slytherins" Snape belonged to plays an important role. (P.S. First-year Sirius and James do NOT get along.)
