My younger daughter, who has an unfortunate tendency toward temper tantrums, had one this morning. What makes it unusual is the reason. She has a cold and this morning it sounded like she was going to cough up a lung. I said that she had to stay home from school.
"BUT I WANT TO GO TO SCHOOL! I TOOK MY COUGH MEDICINE!" [HACK! HACK! COUGH!] "IT'LL KICK IN ANY MINUTE!" [Stamps foot] "LET ME GO TO SCHOOL!"
Restoring my faith in the average child's desire to prefer staying home to watch tv, her twin brother, deliberately began coughing and asked if he could stay home too. I agreed, but only because (A) he does have the same cold she does, even if he's closer to well, and (B) between a two-hour delayed-opening today, and a mid-day orthodontist appointment, he wouldn't be in school for long today any way.
Older daughter-- the one who regularly misses school for medical reasons-- rolled her eyes at their behavior before heading out the door.
