A meme (What does 'meme' mean anyway?)
May. 18th, 2004 02:45 pmI nicked this from Thistlerose, who nicked it from Gehayi, who nicked it...you get the idea.
Take five books off your bookshelf.
2. Book #1 -- first sentence
3. Book #2 -- last sentence on page fifty
4. Book #3 -- second sentence on page one hundred
5. Book #4 -- next to the last sentence on page 150
6. Book #5 -- final sentence of the book
7. Make the five sentences into a paragraph.
The child was wakened by the knotting of the snake’s coils about his waist. It was sometimes hard to know which god they professed to serve. Atticus said, “He’s within range, Heck.” She opened the parlour door and saw two gentlemen sitting with her father—Mr. Weston and his son. And, grinning broadly at the look of horror on Uncle Vernon’s face, Harry set off toward the station exit, Hedwig rattling along in front of him, for what looked like a much better summer than the last.
Hmm...that actually came out kind of interesting, don't you think? If you didn't know the books, Harry sounds like he's both the snake afflicted child and Mr. Weston's son.
The books I used were:
Fire from Heaven by Mary Renault
The Crystal Cave by Mary Stewart
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
Emma by Jane Austen
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling

Date: 2004-08-11 06:07 pm (UTC)"A magical barrier had separated the realms of the gods from the mortal realms for over four hundred years. No one can fly and fight; but the pursuer can still strike. He turned to look at her, and she pulled his fingers impatiently out of his ears. "Er, well yes, a little peckish I suppose," said Arthur. But she knows that whether he has broken Time or been broken by it, he is finally at peace; and the torments that seemed to him so unending have been revealed as the transitory vexations of a troubled world - one that he may, in the end, have helped to make less mad."
I used :
The Realms of the Gods by Tamora Pierce
The Persian Boy by Mary Renault
Harry Potter and the Goblet of fire by J.K Rowling
The Hitchiker's Guide To The Galaxy by Douglas Adams
Killing Time by Caleb Carr
