A few years ago, back when my brother was working as "Security"-- read "Bouncer"-- at a club, he was driving somewhere when he witnessed a hit and run accident. Since he was in his car, he followed the driver who'd run-- leaving the hurt driver in the hands of other bystanders-- until the guy finally stopped somewhere. My brother jumped out his car, hauled the other driver out his car by a fistful of shirt (yes, my brother is big guy), and pinned him against the car until the cops (whom he'd called on his cell phone) arrived and arrested him.

I'd forgotten hearing about this incident until recently when my brother was involved in two other incidents. The first happened relatively recently and the other just this weekend. As background info, you need to know that my brother now owns a pizzeria, and since he often needs to bring large amounts of cash to the bank, he's licensed to carry a gun.

Recently, a couple of his employees went above and beyond, so to thank them, he took them out for a few drinks, etc. after work one night. As he was leaving the bar, he saw some guy's shoes just visible under a bush. Was the guy hiding in wait for someone? Just looking for his keys? It was odd, so my brother got in his car (where he'd left his gun while he was in the bar) but stayed and watched. A minute or two later, one of my brother's employee's, a young woman, came out. As she headed for her car, the hidden guy jumped out and grabbed her. My brother came charging out of his car, pointed the gun at the guy, ordered him to let her go, and then ordered him down on the ground. He kept him there until the police arrived to arrest the guy.

Then this weekend, my brother was in a parking lot talking to a couple of friends before getting his car. Just across the street, a police officer pulled a car over for some reason. A routine traffic stop, right? Not quite. They suddenly heard four sharp pops of gunfire, the officer went down, and the male passenger, who was holding the gun, ran around the car, jumped on top of the female driver-- who apparently wouldn't drive away-- and he drove away. My brother jumped in his car to chase while his two friends ran over to the officer. My brother followed the car until it reached a dead-end street, and then watched where the guy went when he fled the car and left behind the girl. Fortunately, my brother was smart enough to stay in his car and just watch from a distance. He called the police and was able to direct them exactly where to find the guy.

The police officer survived. He took two bullets in his bullet proof vest and one in the abdomen. All three of these incidents took place in the town where my brother lives and works. I'd venture to guess the police there are rather fond of him, especially after the last one. Incidentally, my brother didn't tell me about any of these, even though we spoke this weekend. Our dad told me about them yesterday.
