The day after I last posted, Daughter was admitted to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). She'd developed an infection of the bile duct system (colangitis) and as a result of that, inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis). Colangitis is generally a result of a blockage of the bile ducts, something she is susceptible to because she was born with malformed bile ducts. (The malformation is also the root cause of her developing cirrhosis--the reason she is on the waiting list for a new liver.)

They put her on IV antibiotics to clear up the infection, and painkillers to get her through the pain in the meantime. Unfortunately, she didn't speak up about the pain to the doctors on the first night, so she spent a miserable first night unable to get comfortable enough to sleep. Then she got some lovely opiates and slept almost the entire next day and night.

As of right now, she is finally able to eat again without pain--a sign that the pancreatitis has cleared up--so they will probably discharge her tomorrow. I spent the first three nights with her while Hubby kept things going at home for our other two kids. Tonight, he's staying in the hospital while I'm home.

I tried to go online at the hospital, but CHOP's wireless network blocks "inappropriate" sites. Imagine my surprise to find that some of my favorite fanfic rec sites on LJ were not blocked, but my own LJ was blocked! I must be a naughty, naughty girl.

Eek. I'm glad she's feeling better now.

How funny! Do you have the adult content settings on your journal? Wonder if that would be enough to get you blocked...

I'm reasonably sure that my LJ default is "No Adult Content", but I'll have to check.

Oh no, I was hoping it was something easy. I hope she has no more complications. *Hugs*

Thank you. My husband I figure if she gets hospitalized once every five years, that she's doing pretty well. (It was almost exactly five years ago that she last had an extended hosptial stay due to her liver.)
