Drabble: Zephyr

This week's prompt at [livejournal.com profile] sirius_remus100 is "Severus Snape." Somehow, I wrote a drabble using the prompt without giving Snape a major role.

Title: Zephyr
Author: mysid
Word Count: 100
Prompt: Severus Snape
Rating: PG

Remus suddenly broke away from his classmates and chased a parchment stolen by a playful gust of wind. He bent forward as the parchment neared the ground, only to have the parchment swirl forward again.

"Aha!" Remus crowed triumphantly as he stepped on the runaway and bent down to retrieve it. Sirius appreciated the way the wind wrapped Remus's robe—thin and soft from too many washings—tightly around his legs and arse. When Remus turned back with a smile, Sirius quickly looked away, afraid of being caught staring.

"That git Snape is staring at Remus," Peter muttered. "Wonder why."

I bet you Snape will pay for the effrontery - how dare he stare at Remus like that?

Cute drabble.

We don't even know--nor does Sirius--if that was why Snape was staring. He could have just been sneering at Lupin's childish behavior, or idly wondering if Lupin would catch the parchment.

But yes, Sirius will jump to conclusions, and he won't be happy about it.

I love the image of Remus chasing a parchment in the wind. Lovely.

It's always nice to give poor Remus a light-hearted moment. He doesn't get many.

Thanks.

::is very tempted to say 'great minds think alike' but decides against it:: Lovely, m'dear!

Thank you; glad you liked it.

Very good. I like the possibilities and can almost see Sirius planning some sort of revenge.

As can I--unfortunately.

Thank you.

LOL!!! No one does obliviousness like the marauders. So cute!

I was oblivious to (almost) all things gay when I was their age, and I find it hard to imagine that they weren't pretty clueless. Homosexuality wasn't as openly discussed in the 70's, and the subject would likely be especially taboo within morally-conservative wizarding circles.

Actually, I meant Peter's obliviousness to the staring boy sitting *next* to him, focusing instead on Snape who was, no doubt, not sitting anywhere near them (which is both funny, in this context, and a little sad in the larger context, when you think of how Sirius, Lily, and James are so busy looking for outside enemies later on that they don't notice the trouble coming from the friend right next to them), but I definitely think you're right that Peter would be oblivious to the true subtext behind Snape's (and Sirius's!) staring.

Peter's innocence is sweet. And I really like that being the prompt, Severus, he is only mentioned briefly, although with greater consequences if Sirius heard Peter's muttered words. I fear for Severus.

Yeah, Peter probably thinks Snape is plotting a prank or something. And who knows, maybe he is.

And yes, fear for Severus. Sirius is not happy.
