My husband's cousin--let's call him John--is the product of a "blended family." He and a sister were from his dad's first marriage, his step-siblings were from his step-mom's first marriage, and his youngest sister is the child of his dad and step-mom. John's made comments in the past about his youngest sister's position in the family their parents' "favorite" and how she was, and is, spoiled rotten.

You'd think an experience like that would make him strive to ensure that his own children all feel that they are being treated equally, right? Especially since he has a "blended family" of his own. (He has two sons by his first wife, a step-son through his second wife, and a daughter with the second wife.)

I just got their family Christmas card. Five photos. Each of his sons is in one photo each, and his step-son is in two photos. His daughter? She's in all five.
