How much rum did you drink today?
Sep. 22nd, 2007 09:47 pmFor the past few days, I've had a nasty inner ear infection. My ear doesn't hurt--thank goodness--but it's comletely destroyed my sense of balance. When I sit up, the room spins. If I try to walk, I weave like a drunken sailor. I even bang off the occasional wall. It's kind of amusing--now.
It wasn't amusing at first. I was so dizzy that it caused me to be nauseaous as well. I had to stay completely prone on the sofa or in bed because merely sitting up made me so dizzy that I thought I was going to be sick.
I got a doctor's appointment yesterday, but I quickly realized that I wasn't capable of getting myself there. I tried--and failed--to find a ride. (My hubby was in a meeting at work and my MIL had her cell phone turned off because she was playing golf.) When I called the doctor's office and explained the predicament, the nurse recommended an OTC drug (meclizine) for the nausea. It turned out to be a drug marketed for motion sickness. It makes sense. I've got motion sickness; I just happen not to be in motion.
So, not nauseaous anymore. I'm still bouncing off walls though. (And the drug is making me very sleepy.)
Unfortunately, the doctor wouldn't prescibe an antibiotic over the phone, so I still have the ear infection. I forgot to ask for an appointment on Monday, so now I have to wait for Monday and hope I can get an appointment. My MIL has promised to drive me.
She also came over yesterday and took care of my kids from the time they got home from school until Hubby came home. She even made me chicken soup! Isn't she great?
