I loved it, although I do have a completely different interpretation of Jack's murmurred, "Sorry, sorry, sorry."
In my interpretation, Jack went into that relationship with a pretty good idea that he was gay. (He's the one who complains about not being allowed to sleep in camp, he's the one who initiates sex the first time, and I'd love to know if the photo of a "dark-haired movie star" in his childhood bedroom was an actor or an actress. And these are just the examples from the short story; need I even mention the way Jack uses the mirror to watch Ennis in the movie!)
Ennis, on the other hand, (already engaged to Alma) would gladly have gone the rest of his life keeping that part of himself buried. In this scene, Ennis goes to Jack almost against his will and then flinches away from being kissed. ("OK, I'll admit I need sex, but let's not be totally queer and kiss.") Jack's murmurred "sorry, sorry" as he kisses Ennis becomes his apology for forcing Ennis to face the truth.
