Vampire Detective...hmm, sounds familiar

Does anyone else think the new tv series Moonlight seems a bit too much like the old tv series Forever Knight? One is about a vampire named Nick who works as a homocide detective to attone for his past sins and falls for a mortal woman. The other is about a vampire named Mick who works as a private detective to attone for his past sins and falls for a mortal woman. Can you even tell which sentence applies to which show?

(Or have I just dated myself horribly by admitting that I remember the earlier of these two shows?)

I've got to say that I loved the character of Lacroix on Forever Knight. He was the kind of character you love to hate--and then he'd turn around and do something halfway decent and confuse the hell out of you.

I've never even seen Forever Knight and I know Moonlight is a ripoff ;DDD

I still watch it though, despite the horrible awful cheesiness... (and Forever Knight is in my Netflix queue for when the WGA strike kicks in on primetime programming...)

Can you believe that I haven't tried watching Moonlight yet? I think the fact that it was such an obvious copy turned me off. But I did like the original, so I'd probably like the copy. And I've had a thing about vampires since I can't remember when, so...

...despite the horrible awful cheesiness...
Just so you know, Forever Knight was cheesy too. I liked the late seasons best; they added some cool characters then.

See? That's the thing. There's no way that any vampire show isn't going to be cheesy simply because vampires are so overdone, everything is going to be cliche no matter what :) Hell, Moonlight is so cheesy they used a freakin' Evanesence song in the pilot. I nearly died laughing.

Unfortunately I have a feeling Moonlight won't be long for this world... a full season still wasn't ordered, and from what I know they only finished filming 11 of the 12 episodes before the strike shut things down (or maybe they're still filming, but from what I understand only l1 eps were finished). Even though the ratings were pretty decent, I don't think it'll survive. That said, [livejournal.com profile] moonlight_tv is a very well run community if you're interested in checking it out.

I'm not sure that anything could possibly beat first season Highlander on cheesiness, which is the last thing I got from Netflix :D

I can tell, but only because I'm an old Forever Knight fan.** Except for, y'know, the Unspeakable Ending.**

I don't know what the hell is going on lately, but I see more and more things in books and TV shows that are virtual copies of things that already exist in other canons. When did plagiarism become so fucking acceptable?

**The sentence about Homicide Detective Nick refers to Forever Knight.

...the Unspeakable Ending.

Oh God, wasn't it? I think my chin hit the floor. (But at least the "Unspeakable Ending" included Lacroix!)

When did plagiarism become so fucking acceptable?

I think it always has been on tv. Remember Bewitched and it's--ahem--"homage", I Dream of Jeannie? They even copied the "identical except for a black wig evil twin/sister" idea.

There's just no original plots left anymore...

I wondered about Moonlight because of that. I saw some of the Forever Knight episodes, but didn't follow all of them.

Now that I've read the entry on IMDB on Forever Knight, I realize that all the episodes I watched were Season 3, the last season.

I never managed to sit through the first episode of Moonlight. It's not only unoriginal, it is also really bad. *lol*
