A paragon of ignorance

ff.net has yielded yet another paragon of ignorance. A 14 year-old chicklet wrote a little S/R piece entitled "First Kiss." I wouldn't have bothered reviewing it except that she has the pups in Hogwarts in 1985. I thought I'd do a good deed and point out her mistake, "1985 is five years after Harry was born."

She wrote back saying that she'd always pictured Harry's timeline to be more recent and she estimated Harry's birth around 1992.

An honest mistake, right? So I wrote back and explained the evidence in canon (Nearly Headless Nick's 500th Deathday Party) for the date of Harry's birth. I also pointed her toward the Harry Potter Lexicon for more info on dates.

Her reply? "Like i said before, i never cared enough for those teeny tiny details to calculate the,. That and i thought the chapter on Nick's b-day party ultimately was pointless and merely a transition to the next event."

Huh. She didn't like that chapter, so Harry was born whenever she says he was born. What really gets me is not that she got it wrong, but that she doesn't care that she got it wrong. Her reply to me was a "virtual raspberry."

No, wait! I get it! She's just being a "true fan." JKR can't do maths, so this chicklet won't do them either.
