Mmm...mud

I went to the home of a close relative for Easter dinner. Relative is an excellent cook and always makes the yummiest things--today we had lasagna. Very yum.

But occasionally, his food hygiene isn't quite up to par. Today, I watched him making the salad. He got the romaine lettuce from the fridge, chopped it up, and tossed it in the bowl. Now, this wasn't the pre-washed, pre-chopped stuff--no, it was straight from the garden to the store to our salad bowl--without a single bath along the way.

While he went off to get other items for the salad, I started to pick through the lettuce. Sure enough, I find several pieces that still have dirt on them. Yuck. I pointed this out to him. Did he then realize the mistake he'd made and wash the lettuce? No. He simply wiped the dirt off those pieces and threw them back in the salad bowl. Any pieces I didn't find...well, dirt's good for you, isn't it?
