I suspect these two failed "Plays Well with Others" in school
Just when I think there's hope for the future, someone comes along and makes me ashamed to be human. Iowa has a law that makes bullying in school illegal. Two Iowa legislators want to change the law so that GLBT students will be excepted from it's protection. The actually want to make it legal to bully GLBT students while leaving the anti-bullying legislation in place for all others. They want to make it legal to bully GLBT students in school. It boggles the mind.

Dear Rep. ________,
Perhaps you missed this lesson in kindergarten (and in first grade, and in second grade, and...) but bullying is WRONG. There is NEVER a circumstance in which it should be tolerated. My children understand that. My students understand that. My fellow parents and teachers understand that. So I'm completely dumbfounded that a supposedly intelligent adult--yourself-- thinks it would be a good idea to say, "It's OK to bully some people," and to pass a law making it so.
I'm even more dumbfounded that you think it's a good idea to to say that it's permissable to bully students within a school setting. Every student has a right to an education within a safe environment. And you want to deny that right to students in Iowa. I can't even begin to imagine why you believe that could be acceptable.

I decided to write my letter from the POV that "bullying is bad" without even bringing "le gay" into it. Perhaps they'll be less knee-jerk "Oh, it's written by one of them, so I can ignore it." Besides, I'd write the same letter if it were any minority group they were approving bullying for.
They're in favor of bullying, and people actually voted for them! It really, really, boggles the mind.
